Though we were founded in 2021, Melanin MagEK Travels really started back in 2019.

One of Esi’s friends contacted her about traveling to Ghana with her boyfriend and wanted to know what were the best spots to explore. Esi gave all her recommendations but at the end of the trip, her friend ended the conversation by saying “I wish you could come with us!” That planted the seed in Esi’s head but 2020 came in and stopped her friend’s trip and any plans Esi had of maybe joining them.

Then in 2021, Esi went to Ghana to attend her cousin’s wedding and the idea came back to her. She came back from that trip, with a bunch of ideas of hosting a trip for her friend and all of Esi’s other friends that were interested in finally making Ghana happen.

By October 2022, Esi had a group of 18 people who were ready and locked in to go to Ghana with 1 more securing their spot by the day they took off.

Esi’s first trip was definitely one for the books! 19 friends for her first trip to Ghana?? It was a movie for sure. And then she did it again with another group in 2023!

Melanin MagEK Travels emerged as a travel company to make people’s first trips to Africa, specifically Ghana, one where they feel comfortable with someone who knows Ghana and can navigate people well, be able coordinate and manage problems as arrive, and make those traveling feel like family!
